About OneLine Studio
We build software that turns a plain-English description of a solar electrical system into a permit set an authority having jurisdiction can actually review.
What the product does
A user describes a system — modules, inverter, storage, service panel — in ordinary language. OneLine Studio converts that into a wired single-line diagram, a three-line diagram, a service load calculation, a placard schedule, an interconnection summary and a compliance review, and assembles them into a numbered permit set as a PDF.
The drawings are not clip art assembled by a person. Conductor sizes, overcurrent device ratings, temperature and conduit-fill corrections and busbar interconnection limits are computed by the same deterministic engine on every sheet, from the National Electrical Code sections that govern them — principally 690.7 for cold-temperature open-circuit voltage, 690.8 for continuous-current sizing, 705.12(B)(3) for the point of connection, 310.15 for ampacity correction and 220.82 for the service load calculation.
Why we publish the arithmetic
A permit set is checked line by line by somebody whose job is to find what is wrong with it. Software that produces a number without showing how it got there is of no use in that conversation. Every sheet prints the inputs, the correction factors and the result, so a plan reviewer or a licensed electrician can verify the work rather than trust it.
The same principle governs the articles on this site. Each one answers a question with a worked calculation and names the code section it comes from.
What it does not do
OneLine Studio is a design aid, not a licensed professional. It does not seal drawings, it does not replace a licensed electrician or a professional engineer, and it does not know a jurisdiction's local amendments unless they have been recorded. Every set it produces carries that statement on the sheet itself. Local codes vary, adopted code editions vary, and the authority having jurisdiction has the final say.
Who we are
OneLine Studio is built and operated by Zappfin LLC, a US company based in Illinois. It is a small, self-funded team. There is no outsourced content desk: the software, the calculation engine and the writing on this site are produced by the same people.
