UL 1741: the base safety standard
UL 1741 is the safety standard for inverters, converters, charge controllers, and interconnection equipment used with distributed energy resources like solar and storage. Its core concerns are:

- Anti-islanding — the inverter must detect a grid outage and stop feeding power, so it never energizes lines that utility crews believe are dead

Modern grids need inverters that do more than disconnect — they need to actively help stabilize voltage and frequency. UL 1741-SB is a supplement that certifies these grid-support (advanced/smart inverter) functions, including:

Why it matters for interconnection
